These are OK for opening jars -- they grip pretty well. The downside, which you really can't tell from the picture, is that they're extremely thin. If you're gripping anything with rough edges, you'll feel it through the pad. Of course, you can layer these and use 2 or 3 at a time, but that's not as useful as if they had been thicker in the first place. So these pads are good for some things and less so for others.

This is a neat little product; I have several of them.
Pros:
*Price is right.
*More than one to a package.
*A compact little tool.
*Multiple uses: it not only opens jars, but can be used to keep vases and such from skidding on table surfaces.
Cons:
*It can't handle the heaviest duty jobs like my vacuum-sealed fruit jar, although sometimes I can manage if I hold the base of the jar with one, and the top of a jar with a second gripper.
