Fun and Useful, but may not be Dishwasher Safe!Nov 03, 2009

I bought these because my kids kept stealing the "big people" chopsticks when we order sushi or Chinese food. They boys are 5 and 7, so I don't expect them to have the dexterity to use real chopsticks any time soon. What I was looking for from these was: a) fun, and b) improvement of their fine-motor skills. NOTE: While appreciably easier than regular chopsticks, these still require a little work.
So far, the boys love them. They've been used for almost every meal we've had since we got them. (If I had known, I'd have bought them for the sheer humor factor: imagine a 5-year-old trying to eat spaghetti with chopsticks and you'll know what I'm talking about)
Just one thing: there wasn't anything on the package about whether they are dishwasher safe. We put them in the dishwasher, in the top rack, in a dishwasher-safe basket that we use for such things. One of the chopsticks got warped to the point where it was unusable. Bummer.
All of the others were fine, so maybe this was a fluke. I don't know for sure.
Regardless, I recommend these (again, if only for the humor!)

A Quick Update: I received a package in the mail the other day -- a brand new set of Holdstix, with a note (hand-written!) that says "Sorry about the warped Holdstix. Please accept this replacement.", and signed by "Lynn". It's important to note that I didn't call them, or email, or whatever. All I did was submit my review.
Wow.
This tells me two things: a) the company is actually reading customer reviews, AND b) they are doing something when they read the reviews. Many companies don't take the time to gather passive customer feedback, and those that do gather such info don't often do anything active / positive with it. Compac obviously views customer feedback as important, AND they are acting on it.
Again: Wow.
Yes, I'd recommend this product, AND THIS COMPANY, to my friends.

I have a four year old, whose entire diet, if he had his way, would consist of chicken nuggets (what part of a chicken is that anyway??). He will eat anything I give him, as long as he can use his 'topsticks'. He even wants bread cut up tiny, so he can eat each bite. He struggles with macaroni, but manages to do it. They are well made, really smooth, and easy to clean. I wash mine by hand, because I don't want to wash the animals off the handle. I haven't noticed any staining on them, and he has eaten spaghetti, so I think they are pretty stain resistant, too. BIG thumbs up from this mommy!

My four year old really wanted to use chopsticks like his older brothers - but couldn't quite get the hang of them. We bought a package of these and he's thrilled!
Great quality, definitely dishwasher safe, and easy enough for a four year old to use!

I bought these because I always wanted to learn to use chopsticks and I had seen a review on a different type on t.v. I decided to buy these instead and I am glad I did. When I took the manual dexterity test in high school (many decades ago) I was told that chimpanzees did better on it than I did. That may be true, but they can't do any better with these chopsticks than I can. I can eat everything including cole slaw and pudding with these fun things and I love them. I don't use any other utensils anymore. They are a great diet aide too because when you first use them they slow you down. Not anymore though. I can't say enough about the ease with which you can use these. Buy some just for fun! Have tried others since and can't use them. These are the BEST!

My son loves eating saimin with mommmy and trying to eat sushi. He's three so chopticks just don't do it for him yet. So I bought these. They were my second choice because the chop stick trainers wouldn't ship to hawaii for some reason. I don't really care for these and neither does my son. If anything it discourages him from using them. One has to have just the right tension when grabing the object or the chopstickswill cross and the food will fly or if too soft a touch the food won't make it to ones mouth. When I get back to San Diego I'm getting the better one.
